2023 | Transforming Education: Creating the Conditions for Educators, Learners, and Society to Thrive
Self-paced
Full course description
For too long, we have attempted to improve public education through small, incremental changes. To address the significant challenges facing education and society, we must disrupt traditional approaches to education reform. We must challenge taken-for-granted practices and policies to transform education and create a thriving education system in which all children, youth, and adults can flourish. Pivotal to this transformation is how we develop those with the most potential to shape education—teachers.
A former high school history and biology teacher, Dr. Elizabeth Birr Moje’s research examines young people’s navigations of culture, identity, and literacy learning in and out of school in Detroit. She is author of multiple books and journal articles, and in 2010 was awarded the Provost’s Teaching Innovation Prize, with colleague Bob Bain. Building on 20+ years of working with Detroit teachers and students, Moje is founder and leader of U-M SOE’s role in the Detroit P-20 Partnership.
