The Story of Plastic Pollution: From the Ocean to the Policy Stage
January 19, 2023
10:00 – 11:30am
Professor Chelsea M. Rochman
University of Toronto
Plastic debris, including small microplastic particles often barely visible to the naked eye, are polluting our lakes, rivers, and oceans. Using recent insights, this presentation will discuss where the plastic in our water is coming from, how it’s breaking down and what this could mean for the ecosystem. It will also touch on solutions.
Chelsea M. Rochman is an Assistant Professor in Ecology at the University of Toronto and co-founder of the U. of T. Trash Team. Chelsea received a joint-program Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California, Davis and San Diego State University. In addition to her research, Chelsea routinely advises governments on policies related to plastic pollution.
